What to check
Full grain describes leather whose original grain has not been removed by corrective buffing. It is a material description; also assess the finish, construction and suitability for your use.
Vegetable tanning uses plant-based tanning agents, such as tannins. The term does not mean that the entire production process is chemical-free, nor does it establish the overall environmental impact.
Assess the material description together with the finish and construction. The words “genuine leather”, smell, weight or a photograph alone do not establish a reliable quality ranking. Ask for more product information when a detail is unclear.
Choose care suited to the finish. Do not use grease or smooth-leather cream on suede. Follow the care product’s instructions and test a hidden area first; treatment can change the colour or surface.
